As a keen sportsman, I always knew I wanted to follow a career within sport. I love teaching too, so being able to combine sports and education was the perfect place for me! I want to share my passion with young people to teach valuable life and academic skills through sport, and I think alternative education is amazing to be able to teach students in a unique way.

MSc in Psychology of Sport & Exercise
-
Several years experience in Psychology, Sport, and Education
What I love most about the alternative education programme is being able to offer students a different path to achieve a qualification and able to provide them with the feeling of achievement/purpose. Making these vital connections with them whenever teachers may have given up on them, or they may have given up on the education system, is what makes this job so rewarding. Combining the theory aspect with the practical makes alternative education so exciting to be a part of. I have loved playing sport my whole life, so being able to do this each day with the students is a real joy. Having studied Psychology for several years at University, I can really appreciate the positive effect I can have on these students' mental wellbeing. I am really enthusiastic about continuing in alternative education and being able to support more students who can greatly benefit from our services.

I have always known I wanted to be a teacher with drama and PE being the two that I have always been drawn to. Teaching in a classroom environment that is tailored to each students is something I am very passionate about, schools is a setting that does not work for every child and can make it difficult for them to feel settled and regulated and for the teacher to support and help them. This way of learning is something that I want to help offer to more students who struggle with mainstream school.

I’ve always had a strong passion for sport, whether that’s playing, watching, or teaching and coaching others. After university, I mainly worked in primary schools, but I always knew I wanted to support and inspire young adults. When I discovered ESG and its Alternative Education programme, it felt like the perfect fit — combining the subject I love with the opportunity to engage, motivate, and help shape young minds. Getting involved was an easy decision.

Since joining, the experience has been brilliant. I’ve loved working with a like-minded team and a group of students full of personality, who really get stuck into both the theory and practical sides of the course.
